Sexual Misconduct Policy


  1.  Drama Queen Studio Academy is committed to the prevention of and appropriate response to sexual misconduct.

  2. Sexual misconduct refers to a spectrum of non-consensual sexual contact and behaviour including the following:

    • sexual assault; is any form of sexual touching or the threat, express or implied, of sexual touching without the Individual’s Consent. Sexual assault is the legal term used in Canada and it is a crime.

    • sexual exploitation; Actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, power, or trust, for sexual purposes, including, but not limited to, profiting monetarily, socially or politically from the sexual exploitation of another

    • sexual harassment; is unwelcome conduct, by comment or gesture, of a sexual nature that detrimentally affects the learning environment, or leads to adverse consequences for the individual directly subjected to the harassment.

    • voyeurism; is the distribution of a sexually explicit photograph or video of a person to one or more persons other than the person in the photograph or video without the consent of the person in the photograph or video and with the intent to distress the person in the photograph or video;

    • stalking; is the engaging in unwelcome conduct expressed or implied, that causes an individual to fear for their physical or psychological safety. It includes repeatedly following the individual, repeatedly communicating with the individual through any means, engaging in threatening conduct, or keeping watch over the place where the individual happens to be.(stalking through the use of electronic means)

    • indecent exposure; is exposing one’s body to another individual either physically or electronically, for a sexual purpose without the individual’s consent.

    • the attempt to commit an act of sexual misconduct; and

    • the threat to commit an act of sexual misconduct.

  3. A Complaint of sexual misconduct is different than a Report of sexual misconduct. A person may choose to disclose or complain of sexual misconduct without making a formal report. A Report is a formal notification of an incident of sexual misconduct to someone at the institution accompanied by a request for action.

  4. A student making a Complaint will be provided with resolution options and, if appropriate, accommodation, and will not be required or pressured to make a Report.

  5. The process for making a Complaint about sexual misconduct involving a student is as follows:

    • A Complaint may be made verbally or in writing and is to be directed to the attention of the applicable Program Instructor or Director.

  6. The process for responding to a Complaint of sexual misconduct involving a student is as follows:

    • The institution will acknowledge receipt of the Complaint within 15 days.

    • The Complainant will be offered appropriate confidential support, accommodations, and other resources. Accommodations include the ability to alter academic schedules, to withdraw from/retake a class without penalty, and to access academic support.

  7. The process for making a Report of sexual misconduct involving a student is as follows:

    • A Report must be submitted in writing to Kiran Purewal, Lead Instructor/ Owner at DramaQueenStudio@gmail.com. In the event that Kiran Purewal is not available, reports will be submitted to Director Baljit Purewal at balspurewal@gmail.com

    • The allegation must be made against a current student or staff member of Drama Queen Studio Academy at the time of the alleged misconduct, has occurred within the last six months and the conduct falls within the definition of Sexual Misconduct as indicated in the Policy.

    • The Report must include all relevant details including dates, times, locations, any witnesses, copies of emails, texts, or social media communications.

  8. The process for responding to a Report of sexual misconduct involving a student is as follows:

    • The institution will review the Report within a reasonable timeframe and confirm next steps in writing.

    • Drama Queen Studio Academy is committed to due process, and as such the investigation will normally conclude within 30 - 60 days from when the Report is filed. However, the investigator may need to extend the investigation if it is determined that the 60 day timeline cannot be met. In these instances the parties will be notified and reasons for a delay will be provided.

    • Upon completion of the investigation, all parties involved will be provided with written copies of any findings.

    • Depending on the nature of the sexual misconduct and that disciplinary measures are required, Drama Queen Studio Academy may: issue a verbal warning, issue a written warning noting Disciplinary Probation, suspension from the program or employment with Drama Queen Studio Academy or dismissal from the program or employment with Drama Queen Studio Academy

    • Drama Queen Studio Academy may not be able to take action or proceed with an investigation based on reports that are made verbally, anonymously, or lacking evidence, as this may constitute a violation of procedural fairness..

  9. It is contrary to this policy for an institution to retaliate, engage in reprisals or threaten to retaliate in relation to a Complaint or a Report.

  10. Any processes undertaken pursuant to this policy will be based on the principles of administrative fairness. All parties involved will be treated with dignity and respect. 

  11. All information related to a Complaint or Report is confidential and will not be shared without the written consent of the parties, subject to the following exceptions:

    • If an individual is at imminent risk of severe or life-threatening self-harm.

    • If an individual is at imminent risk of harming another.

    • There are reasonable grounds to believe that others in the institutional community may be at significant risk of harm based on the information provided.

    • Where reporting is required by law.

    • Where it is necessary to ensure procedural fairness in an investigation or other response to a Complaint or Report.
