Hyaluronic Acid Fillers and Neurotoxins- Dr. Navi Rattan

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers and Neurotoxins

Filler and neurotoxin treatment is a non-invasive way to provide quicker cosmetic enhancements to various parts of the face. However, filler/neurotoxin use is not a “quick fix” treatment. Over time, neurotoxin use can train muscles to relax and even prevent the onset of wrinkles. This requires a long term treatment plan. Neurotoxin use also needs to be balanced. For example, treating the forehead area without treating the glabella (in between eye brows) or temple area can produce a wrinkle free forehead but make the glabella and temple area more pronounced and unbalanced cosmetically looking.

Filler treatment mandates an even more thorough evaluation. Whether it is for the lips, tear troughs or cheeks; filler use requires a good treatment plan. Volume loss, wrinkles and the ageing process do not occur overnight. Similarly, it is impossible to treat and reverse the signs of this process through a quick fix one-time filler treatment.  Those who achieve the best results have a thorough treatment plan, treating different aspects of the aging process in an organized and systemic pattern.  For example, one cannot hope to achieve optimal results in the tear trough without treating the cheeks and even then, that client may require additional treatments to achieve the results they desire. The treatment plan is key to achieving cosmetic results possible.  Finally, filler and neurotoxin use has to be augmented with good medical grade skincare to provide the best results.

Skin Care

Filler and neurotoxin use are only one component of rejuvenated youthful skin. Good skincare is required to achieve maximal results. Skin protection is the first step with medical grade antioxidant and sunscreen use. This protects against aging, sun exposure and environmental skin damage.

Using sunscreen and antioxidants as a base, further medical grade skin regiments can be created to prevent and correct wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne and much more. Anyone who undergoes filler or neurotoxin treatment should be on a medical skincare regiment to supplement and enhance in office filler and neurotoxin use

Tear Trough

The tear trough area is often a difficult area to treat and usually a multimodal approach is needed. Under eye damage can occur from a combination of genetics, hyaluronic acid volume loss, lack of antioxidants, and environmental factors such as sun damage. This can produce under eye hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and folds to produce a fatigued look

To treat this area effectively a combination approach is also needed. Utilizing medical grade skincare to replenish antioxidants and hyaluronic acid is important alongside a good retinol.

Neurotoxins are used to relax under eye muscles to help decrease wrinkles while filler treatment is used to increase under eye volume. Finally, chemical peels and lasers can also be used to help with hyperpigmentation.

To achieve best results with tear trough fillers, it is advisable to treat the cheeks and temples first to help lift and tighten the tear trough area.

Younger faces have a fullness and convexity in and around the temples. As we age, we lose volume in our temples which makes them convex in shape. This produces an “hollowing and sunkeness” to our upper and mid-facial areas. Volume loss in the temples can effect the entire face below the temples making people look older than they are. Using filler treatment to volumize this area area can give clients a fuller face, a rejuvenated look around the eyes and even a lateral eye brow raise.

The cheeks are one of the most fundamental areas that can be treated with hyaluronic acid based fillers. The cheeks are important in giving the face definition and shape. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid and with it, structure in the face. By treating the cheeks, we not only recapture this structure, but other areas such as the tear trough and nasolabial folds improve. In fact, often the first step in treating the tear trough or nasolabial folds is actually treating the cheeks.

Nasolabial folds

The nasolabial folds also known as the “laugh lines,” get stronger as we age. In addition to good medical grade skin-care, we use fillers to treat this area as well.  The best way to do this is by first treating the cheeks to provide a lift to the lower face. Once the cheeks are treated, a cannula or needle technique can be used to decrease the laugh lines further.

The lips are another common area to be treated with fillers. Wrinkles around the lips can be treated with neurotoxin. However, volume loss and structure of the lips can be enhanced by utilizing hyaluronic acid based fillers. A natural enhancement of the lips combined with cheek enhancement can provide a very nice result in defining the structure of the face.

Drama Queen Studios - Under Eye Fillers

Under Eye Fillers

Many people, regardless of age, have shadows and depressions under the eyes that leave them feeling self-conscious and aged. This can be due to genetics and/or due to aging. Under-eye fillers are a safe and effective alternative to surgery. Dr. Navi Rattan is an experienced injector in tear trough fillers, having performed countless treatments. He is confident in his ability to achieve a beautifully full and balanced under-eye area.

Tear Trough & Dark Circles

The tear trough extends from the inner corner of the eye to the palpebromalar groove. A deep hollow in this area can create a shadow that exasperates the look of dark circles below the eye. It also creates a division between the lower eyelid and cheek, which can be an early sign of again around the eyes. Patients with deep tear troughs often feel they look tired or older than they actually are. While it is more common to experience deep tear troughs as you age, even younger patients can have a tear trough deformity.

Under-eye fillers are a great alternative to the invasive approach of surgery. Treatment with a filler such as Teosyal

can provide a patient with a long-lasting natural result, often greater than one year, with minimal downtime.

Teosyal is an ideal filler choice for the tear trough for many reasons. It unique consistency creates a natural rejuvenation in the tear trough. It is also long-lasting, often greater than a year. And finally, since it is a hyaluronic acid filler, it can be broken down with hyaluronidase injection, if necessary.

Important Things to Know!

1) Surprisingly, injections under the eyes are not painful. Patients are often anxious about their upcoming treatment, but are pleasantly surprised to find that there is virtually no discomfort.

2) Some minor swelling is expected after treatment. This is usually minor and resolves within a week. Some patients will also develop minor bruising that can usually be covered with makeup. Patients should avoid exercise for twenty-four hours after the procedure to minimize swelling. Otherwise, patients can resume work and normal activities.  This typically resolves within a week. Patients are advised not to undergo treatment if they have an important event around the corner.

3) Most patients are pleased with the outcome of treatment, even if their results are subtle.

4) Most patients only require one syringe of Teosyal, but patients with very deep tear troughs may ultimately need multiple syringes.

5) As with all filler treatments, it is essential that patients avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other medication/supplement that may promote bleeding.

Our breath-taking Bride, Natasha

Our breath-taking Bride, Natasha

Hair, Make-up, & Dressing by Master Artist Kiran Purewal

Natasha was one of our most popular brides of 2016! Draped in regal reds and golds for her wedding ceremony, she truly looked like Drama Queen Royalty! In contrast, Natasha wore a stunning deep purple lengha with mirrored embroidery- the perfect look for her Reception.

For Natasha’s wedding ceremony, we really wanted to highlight her unique outfit and jewelry pieces. For her lips, Kiran kept it soft, rosy, and neutral. For her eyes, she created a beautiful smokey-eye and added some extra umph with Mink Lashes in Mumtaaz.

We loved Natasha’s Reception look! The mirror work in her deep-purple lengha was stunning. For the evening look, we added a little more contour and used browns and dark purples for her eyes. To add some drama, Kiran used DQS Mink Lashes in Cleopatra.

Both Natasha’s hair looks we created using DQS Hair Extensions in 1B. They’re so incredibly soft and easy to style!

Natasha’s Testimonial:

I had an amazing time working with Kiran and Kelly! I never usually get my hair or makeup done as I am hesitant that it may not come out exactly the way I want. However, Kiran really brought my vision to life. She tweaked and perfected my looks until they were exactly what I envisioned. She worked with me, and had many suggestions from her obvious long-term experience. Our meetings and conversations were always fun and light which made me feel less anxious about the upcoming events (especially on the day of the wedding). Thank you for making my wedding and reception so easy and memorable! With the stress of the week it was nice to have something that was so smooth, relaxed, and fun!
